Swimmers Face the Gauntlet at the First Swim Practice of 2012

Sunday, January 8, 2012 by admin

Welcome to 2012! Today we officially kicked off the return of group training sessions with a distance-focused swim workout at The Colony Aquatic Park.

This workout features long, timed endurance swims while incorporating lessons on sighting, body contact, navigating around people, turning buoys, positioning on starts, as well as other skills used in open water.

The open water swim drill employed today was called The Gauntlet: 25 yards of pastel-colored pool noodles, shouting, ankle grabbing, and splashing.

It kind of worked like this…

…except with brighter colors.

Each person took their turn swimming the gauntlet while being beaten with Easter egg-colored noodles and people grabbing their ankles.

A fun time was had by all.

Were you there? What did you think of the gauntlet?
